EBVS President Professor Dominiek Maes participated in the 2015 annual general assembly of the Union of European Veterinary Practitioners (UEVP). The UEVP, the European umbrella organization of national veterinary practitioners' associations, discussed many important issues of concern to practicing veterinarian professionals across Europe, including:
- Revised Regulations on Veterinary Medicinal Products and Medicated Feed
- Changing global disease landscape and the aim to achieve food security for all people
- Animal Welfare
Of particular interest for EBVS members were presentations on Professional qualifications, the VetCEE initiative and programmes of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in different European countries.
Professor Maes outlined current EBVS activities and emphasized the need to obtain legal recognition of specialist standards and qualifications across Europe through the common training framework (CTF) mechanism for specialist recognition across Member States.
